Big crowds are expected in Burnham-On-Sea today (Saturday November 24th) for the town’s annual Christmas lights switch-on.
BBC Points West reporter Clinton Rogers will flip the switch at 4pm to light up the town for the festive period.
In the lead-up to the switch-on, a range of events are being planned. An all-day Christmas market will be held in the town’s High Street from 11am with over 20 stalls expected.
Then at 1pm the Burnham and Highbridge town band will play a range of festive tunes in the High Street, followed at 2.30pm by a special performance of Christmas songs and carols by Burnham-based drama group Curtain Call.
At 3.30pm and just after the 4pm switch-on, popular local opera singer Tim Pitman (pictured below at last year’s event) will entertain the crowds with a range of stirring songs.
Father Christmas is also scheduled drop in during the afternoon, along with Orchard FM’s ‘Thunder Truck’, and Burnham’s Light Of Elizabeth hovercraft and its crewmembers.
Final preparations for the event are underway by organisers from Burnham’s Chamber of Trade and in the event of any bad weather on the day, Burnham-On-Sea.com will publish details on Saturday lunchtime of any changes to the schedule.
