Tickets are on sale for Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge Choral Society’s Spring Concert which is set to be held on Saturday 29th April.
The popular annual concert will take place in St John’s Church, Highbridge, and will start at 7.30pm.
This year, the choir will be celebrating European music by singing Britten’s St Nicolas Cantata, Faure’s Cantique de Jean Racine and music from composers Brahms, Verdi, Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus, who are better known as being the writers and singers of the Swedish group ABBA.
The choir will be joined by an orchestral ensemble, along with Tenor soloist Rhodri Prys Jones.
Rhodri, right, is from Llanfyllin in Mid Wales and graduated with a BA Hons 2:1 degree in Music and Media from The University of Wales Trinity St David in Carmarthen. He has recently graduated from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with a First Class degree, studying with Tenor Adrian Thompson.
He has begun his studies on Opera Performance at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and is continuing his tuition with Tenor Adrian Thompson.
Rhodri was directly supported by Shirley Bassey, and was awarded the prestigious Shirley Bassey Award towards his studies at the Royal Welsh College.
Rhodri’s concert performances include Handel’s Messiah, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Stainer’s Crucifixion, Orff’s Carmina Burana, Gounod’s Messe Sollennele, Bruckner’s Mass in F Minor, Puccini’s Messa Di Gloria, Haydn The Seasons, and Mozart’s Requiem. Rhodri has performed various opera roles.
He has also sung with the chorus in many operas including Gair ar Gnawd with the Welsh National Opera.
Tickets are priced at £8 and are available from Material Needs in Burnham-On-Sea, The Crafty Teacup and from choir members.
