Burnham singers’ performance helps raise £7,500 for Cancer Research

-

A group from Burnham and Highbridge Choral Society took part in a busy day of singing at the Colston Hall in Bristol this week to raise a huge £7,500 for Cancer Research UK.

The singers, pictured here, were among the David Pitts Scratch Chorus and Orchestra which performed a variety of music, ranging from classical to musicals.

The idea was to learn the music – mostly on the day – then perform to an audience who had free entry but were asked to give donations for the charity.

“The members of the choir and orchestra, totalling almost 500, had never met before, let alone played or sung together,” the group’s spokesperson Julie Skinner told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“Having said that, each person gave an enthusiastic performance which, going by the applause, went down very well.”

“The amount raised was just over £7,500! Thanks go to everyone who came and supported us all.”

“We enjoyed the experience so much that we are all hoping to take part again on Sunday 25th January 2015, so put the date into your diaries!”

Meanwhile, the society is also planning a concert on Saturday 10th May at 7.30pm at St. John’s Church in Highbridge. Tickets are priced at £7.50 and are available from members or Grandma’s Attic in Victoria St, Burnham (cash only) or on the night.
