Burnham-On-Sea choirs raise over £500 for In Charley’s Memory

-

Members of two Burnham-On-Sea choirs have handed over a cheque for over £500 to a town charity this week following a fundraising concert.

A Carols by Candlelight Carol Concert held last Saturday at St Andrew’s Church raised £522 for Burnham charity ‘In Charley’s Memory’.

Two choirs, ‘Burnham On Song’ and ‘Burnham Youth Choir’, sang their hearts out to a packed church in front of an audience of around 200 people, including the Mayor and Mayoress.

“It was one of both my choir’s best performances ever,” said the groups’ leader Siobhan Johnson. “The entire church came to life at the very end with the 12 days of Christmas.”

She added: “Daisy Mae Marks – Charley’s sister – was the highlight of the evening as she very bravely sang ‘You Raise Me Up’ during the candlelight remembrance.”

“This is the second year we have organised a Christmas Carol Concert in aid of the charity and we very much look forward to performing at again next year.”

The charity is named after Burnham teenager Charley Marks, 18, who took his own life in September 2014. The group was set up using his name to support young people and those affected by mental health.

The choirs also held a successful summer concert earlier in the year when £223 was raised for Burnham’s BARB Search & Rescue.
