A Devon pensioner will be striding through Burnham-On-Sea on Tuesday (September 1st) when he’s joined by police officers from across Somerset for a fundraising charity walk.
Doug Hamilton-Cox will be putting his best foot forward during his charity walk from Devon to Wiltshire.
Doug, 65, started the sponsored walk on Thursday (August 27th) in aid of Help For Heroes, a charity close to his heart as a former soldier.
He left home near Exeter on Thursday morning, as pictured here, and numerous police officers will be joining him along the way, walking a mile or so with him, as he passes through their beats.
Doug said: “As an ex-soldier I read in the papers about the families of fallen soldiers and my heart goes out to them. I felt I wanted to raise money for the charity and a walk to Wootton Bassett seemed appropriate.”
“A spot of company would be nice along the way, although I hope the officers don’t slow me down! I cut quite a pace when I am on my own.”
He will be in Wellington on Saturday 29th August, Taunton on Sunday 30th, Burnham-On-Sea on Tuesday 1st September, Weston-Super-Mare on Tuesday 1st September, Nailsea on Wednesday 2nd, Wraxall Thursday 3rd and Bristol Saturday 4th.
