Thirteen groups and clubs from across the Burnham-On-Sea area have begun 2010 with a financial boost, thanks to the town council.
Representatives from each of the organisations were handed cheques by Mayor Derick Cooper and Deputy Mayor Danny Titcombe on Monday evening (January 4th) during the council’s annual charity presentation, as pictured here.
Burnham Sea Cadets received £150 to expand and upgrade its facilities, Somerset Community Partnership received £300 to replace a water pump, and Burnham and Highbridge Choral Society received £100 for its annual spring concert.
The Rosewood Action Group received £150 for its admin costs, Burnham and Highbridge Gateway Club received £250 for specialised chairs, and Burnham Scouts received £150 for camping equipment.
Burnham United FC received £150 for a new spectator fence, BARB received £280 to replace its high-intensity search lights, the Carnival Association received £250 for new barriers, and the Stroke Club received £150 towards its summer outings. The final two recipients are Burnham and Highbridge Town Twinning Association, which received £225, and Highbridge In Bloom, which got £250.
Cllr Cooper said each of the groups fully deserved financial help during difficult economic times for many small organisations.
