A Burnham seafront pub has run into planning problems with its new decking terrace, pictured, which it installed late last year.
We recently reported how Chaplins had spent more than £5,000 on building the new extension in order to allow customers to legally smoke outside its premises after July’s smoking ban.
But owner Colin Spence, pictured, did not have full planning permission for the structure and is now waiting to hear whether his application for retrospective permission will be accepted by Sedgemoor planners.
Burnham-On-Sea town planners have this week objected against the structure and are now awaiting the comments of James White, Sedgemoor’s Conservation Officer.
A town council spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Thursday (February 22nd): “We do not want to see individual properties extending out from the building line and would welcome the comments of the conservation officer.”
The application includes a 12mm-thick glass screen around the wooden decking area, along with a canopy, to allow it to be used all year round.
Sedgemoor planning spokesman Dave Crowell added: “The application is currently in consultation phase until February 28th and will be reviewed shortly afterwards.”
