SWRDA fails to attend Burnham-On-Sea regeneration meeting

-

Burnham-On-Sea Chamber of Trade this week expressed its “disappointment” at the decision by the South West Regional Development Agency (SWRDA) not to attend a public meeting in Burnham to explain why the town had missed out on £750,000 of regeneration funding.

The Chamber of Trade had invited a representative from SWRDA to last Wednesday’s meeting in the Town Council Chambers to discuss its recent decision not to give Burnham the much-needed cash for the re-development of the town centre.

Over 40 residents attended the meeting, as pictured, but Nicola Slawski from Sedgemoor District Council was left to answer the questions from the public, instead of SWRDA.

Chamber of Trade Chairman Geoff Shickle told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We were disappointed not to have a representative from SWRDA. However, they have agreed to meet with the Chamber and other interested bodies in a private meeting later in August.”

“Nicola Slawski gave a very informative update on the current situation and how she is determined to press ahead on our behalf to get something done with the now-limited funds at her disposal.”

“She listened and took copious notes on the feedback from the audience. Interestingly, there was overwhelming support from a good attendance of about 40 people for a form of pedestrianisation sooner rather than later on the grounds of health and safety and air pollution.”
