The 30th anniversary of the twinning of Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge with Fritzlar in Germany has been celebrated this month.
Burnham and Highbridge’s Mayor, Cllr Andy Brewer, and Mayoress Lorna Brewer have visited Germany with members of the Twinning Society to mark the milestone.
The Burgermeister of Fritzlar, Hartmut Spogat, and Cllr Brewer exchanged gifts to celebrate the anniversary.
“A special wall-hanging made by Burnham-On-Sea U3A was presented to the Fritzlar Partnershaft during the visit – a wonderful piece of art that features many landmarks and scenes about Burnham and Highbridge,” said Cllr Brewer.
“A Ginkgo Biloba tree was also planted by the Grey Tower in Fritzlar to mark the anniversary – this tree is special because it represents friendship through the shape of the leaf.”
He added: “The members of the Twinning Society spent four days being home-hosted by their German friends who will, in turn, visit Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge next summer.”
“It has been a most enjoyable visit to mark this special relationship between the towns.”
Burnham’s U3A Concert Party also attended and gave some superb performances of songs during the visit.
