This CCTV camera introduced on Burnham seafront last week is set to be moved because of concerns about health and safety.
Burnham-On-Sea.com first reported last week how several high-tech cameras had been installed next to the jetty at the junction of The Esplanade and Pier Street, and another had been put in place opposite the Tourist Information Centre.
However, safety concerns regarding the dangerous nature of the camera’s metal arm, which juts out from the edge of the lifeguard station, mean it will now be re-sited.
Town councillor Arthur Thorogood told a town council meeting on Monday evening (March 1st): “I have just been informed today that because of the dangerous positioning of the camera and related health and safety issues, the camera will be moved.”
One Burnham-On-Sea.com reader, Andy Griffin, said: “I am very concerned that the new supporting post fixed to the lifeguard station by the slipway is dangerous. The supporting bracket is sticking out onto the public path just at child head height and also has a protruding bolt.”
He added: “I think it is only a matter of time before a child will run into this. I have reported this to the council and they seem to be aware. I just hope something is sorted quickly as this is an accident waiting to happen.”
