Lucky escape for motorists as car flips over near Burnham-On-Sea

-

Two people were lucky to escape with only minor injuries after this car overturned in an accident near Burnham-On-Sea on Monday evening (September 12th).

Police and an ambulance were called to The Causeway at East Huntspill at 6.30pm where the Peugeot 206 had rolled over onto its side, as pictured here.

“The car had left the road and collided with a lamp post near the entrance to Middlemoor Waterpark,” Police spokesman Sam Malone told Burnham-On-Sea.com

“The occupants, a male and female, managed to get out of the vehicle. The passenger was uninjured, while the driver sustained several minor injuries and an ambulance was called to check them over.”

The road was partially closed by the incident until recovery of the vehicle was completed at around 8.20pm.

The safety of the Causeway has come under the spotlight many times in recent years after several collisions.

In July 2012, a man was killed just a few metres away from this week’s crash when his car plunged into a roadside water-filled ditch, as we reported here.

A man also died in a ditch crash on the Causeway in the centre of the village of Mark, as reported here in May 2015.

And in July this year two people were injured following a crash on the Causeway between Mark and Watchfield, as we reported here.
