Catamaran runs aground on Stert Island opposite Burnham-On-Sea

-

Burnham-On-Sea Coastguards were called out on Sunday evening (April 3rd) amid concern for the welfare of a person onboard this catamaran after it ran aground on Stert Island.

Coastguards were called out shortly before 6.30pm after a seafront walker spotted the stranded vessel on the mudflats opposite Burnham, as pictured here.

“Fortunately, it was established that several local fishermen had managed to contact the catamaran to confirm that the person onboard was OK and happy to wait for a fresh tide to refloat,” said a spokesman.

While the incident was a false alarm with good intent, Burnham Coastguards encourage local people to dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard if they suspect anyone is in danger.
