A warning has been issued to cat owners to be extra vigilant after a pet in Highbridge was shot with an airgun, injuring it, this week.
The cat was shot in West Avenue, Highbridge on Monday (December 19th) between 10am and 1pm.
The pet, called Clyde, was taken to Bridge Vets in Worston Road, Highbridge where an X-Ray photo confirmed the disturbing news.
A spokesman said: “The owner brought in their cat with an injured leg and X-rays revealed that he had been shot with an airgun pellet which had fractured his leg.”
“The pellet has been removed and he is recovering well, but if anyone has any information about this please inform the local police.”
Clyde’s owner, Lucy Parkinson, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “He’s a good, timid cat, who is soft natured and has never killed anything.”
“I popped out on Monday to do some Christmas shopping at 10am, returning home at 1pm and let him in and noticed he was limping and then hid under the table.”
“I carried on and prepared a tea for the family and some visitors and saw he was still under the table. I thought it because he was scared by a house full of visitors.”
“But I checked him over and found he couldn’t walk on his back leg so we took him to Bridge Vets.”
“They kept him in and made him comfy and I rang them again on Tuesday to check on him, where he was awaiting an X-Ray. The vet called later to say he had definitely been shot by an air gun pellet and would have an operation to remove the pellet.”
“He should be OK to come home on Wednesday – £250 later!”
“I’m disgusted that someone would hurt our Clyde and want everyone to know that there are some careless, cruel individuals out there.”
