Highbridge churchgoers to join world record carol singing bid today

-

A church in Highbridge will take part in a nationwide attempt on Sunday (December 16th) to break the world record for the largest number of Christmas carol singers – all singing at the same time.

The current record was set last year when churches across the UK and abroad attracted a total of 18,114 carol singers to sing five classic carols in unison – beating the previous record of just 14,100 set in 2009.

Highbridge’s Gospel Tabernacle Evangelical Church will join in this year’s record attempt at 7pm on Sunday when five carols will be sung in churches up and down the country – Silent Night, O Come All Ye Faithful, O Little Town of Bethlehem, Away in a Manger, and Hark! The Herald Angels Sing.

Rev Kelton Black, pictured, pastor of the Gospel Tabernacle Church, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We would like to invite everyone from our local community to join us in this carol singing record attempt.”

“It will undoubtedly be a lot of fun to be part of a national challenge while enjoying festive carols in our local church.”

He added: “The service will start at 6.45pm and we encourage people to arrive in good time so we can be ready for the record attempt.”

Premier Christian Radio will be co-ordinating the national attempt and will play the five carols on the radio, enabling local churches to use the broadcast as their backing music and helping the nationwide record attempt.
