Burnham-On-Sea Carnival organisers unveil road closure plans

-

With under two weeks to go, final preparations for the Highbridge and Burnham-On-Sea Carnival are well underway – and the road closures have been confirmed by organisers this week.

The carnival organisers have reassured residents that they are not anticipating on closing roads earlier than in previous years, despite concerns raised this week by some residents about some signs.

The closures will start on Saturday November 3rd at 9pm when Queen’s Drive and part of The Frank Foley Parkway are closed to allow the entries to arrive from Bridgwater Carnival.

“On the day of our event, Monday November 5th, the first road to close will be the Tesco end of The Frank Foley Parkway. Most other roads will stay open until as close to 6:30pm as possible,” said a Carnival Committee spokesperson.

“We aim to keep a balance between keeping the spectators safe and ensuring that everyone can get home safely without too much traffic disruption. Other roads in town will only be closed before 6.30pm if it is judged that there is a risk to public safety. All other roads will close by 6.30pm and will the-open as soon as possible at the end of the event.”

“We understand there have been some concerns about the roads closing earlier this year as we have better signage containing our ‘from 4pm’ time. We just want to reassure residents that we are not anticipating closing roads earlier than we have in previous years.”

“The Highbridge and Burnham-On-Sea Carnival committee would like to take this opportunity to thank the residents, businesses and Town Council for their patience and continued support of our town’s carnival.”

There will be a number of waiting and parking restrictions throughout the weekend when drivers are asked to keep a look out for the no-waiting cones. Details are on the carnival website. These are enforced throughout the weekend.

The Carnival is set to be another amazing show, drawing crowds of up to 30,000 to Burnham-On-Sea town centre on the night. Last year was a record year for the event’s collection, raising a total of £13,430 – much of which goes to support local groups and organisations.

The carnival procession will start at 7.30pm on Love Lane, where it will proceed along Manor Road, Victoria Street and the High Street, coming to an end in Marine Drive. The procession usually takes around one hour to reach the finish line and around one and a half hours to pass any given point along the route.

If anyone would like to support Highbridge and Burnham’s Carnival on the day of the event, they can get in contact by volunteering via hboscarnival.org.
