Big crowds expected for tonight’s Burnham-On-Sea Carnival

-

Large crowds of up to 35,000 people are expected for the annual Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge Carnival on Monday evening, November 6th.

Dozens of huge carnival floats arrived in Burnham-On-Sea during the early hours of Sunday (November 5th) for the annual event, which this year boasts over 103 entries.

A long snake of floats has gathered along Queen’s Drive (pictured) and The Frank Foley Parkway as the teams behind each float prepare for Monday’s big parade in Burnham, which gets underway at 7.30pm from Love Lane before wending its way through Burnham’s streets to Marine Drive.

The weather is forecast to stay fine and dry for the parade, with clear skies although temperatures are expected to dip down to a chilly five degrees centigrade.

Each carnival club will be doing its best not only to entertain but also to impress the 60 judges and win one of the 40 prizes up for grabs. Highbridge Young Farmers, Hillview Carnival Club and a Highbridge dance club are among the local entries. There will also be 80 charity collectors weaving beside the parade, urging the crowds to dig deep in order to try and beat the £6,400 raised last year.

The town’s carnival festivities got off to a spectacular start on Sunday night (Nov 5th) when a 20-minute seafront fireworks display lit up the town, as reported here.
