Laser pens seized, but police praise Burnham-On-Sea carnival-goers

-

Trading standards staff seized several laser pens during Monday night’s Burnham-On-Sea carnival amid concern they would be shone into performers’ faces – but police have praised the overall behaviour of spectators.

There was a visible police presence in Burnham town centre with 25 officers joined, eight special constables and 12 PCSOs in place during the carnival.

Inspector Roger Tolley, pictured, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “There were several seizures of laser pens on the night by Trading Standards following problems raised at last week’s Weston Carnival when the lights were shone into people’s eyes. We received information that there might be similar issues in Burnham so four seizures were made to stop the matter before it could become a problem.”

He added: “There was a great spirit at this year’s carnival. The marshalls and organisers put on a really professional evening and it was great to see people enjoying themselves.”

“There was one non-carnival related arrest for a public order offence in the Manor Gardens but that occurred before the carnival itself.”
