Burnham-On-Sea Carnival set to ‘move to a Friday night in 2015’

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s winter carnival looks set to be held on a Friday from two years time, it has emerged this week.

Phil New, Chairman of Burnham Carnival Association, told the group’s AGM that he has applied to Somerset Carnival Association for a change of day from 2015.

“I have informed the County Secretary that we are intending to hold our carnival on the Friday after Bridgwater,” he confirmed to Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“A Friday carnival would be great for Burnham. It would be better for young families whose children would not to worry about school the following morning and it would also be good for visitors to make a weekend of the event,” he said.

He added that Weston Carnival, which is currently held on the Friday after Briddgwater, had moved to the day on a ‘three year trial’ and would be rescheduled.

This year’s carnival will be unaffected by the proposals and takes place on Monday November 4th. There was controversy last autumn when Burnham Carnival Association attempted to move its parade to the Friday evening before Bridgwater, however pressure from other clubs caused those plans to be axed.
