With just a few weeks to go before this year’s Highbridge and Burnham-On-Sea Carnival, the event’s organisers have issued an urgent plea for more volunteer marshals to come forward.
To meet stringent safety regulations, the annual spectacle on Monday November 7th requires at least 80 marshals in place along its route.
The Carnival Committee has written to clubs and groups across the Burnham area to appeal for more volunteers, but has had a disappointing response with no offers of help.
Carnival spokesman Jamie Hawke told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “This year’s carnival will see dozens of floats pass through the streets of Burnham-On-Sea and it will once again attract many thousands of spectators along the route. To be safely run, we require over 80 marshals.”
“Without the help of volunteer marshals, we could not hold the event.”
Jamie added: “To be a marshal, volunteers need to be free to help between 6pm and 11pm on Monday November 7th. We will tell them exactly what to do and where to go and provide high visibility tabbards.”
“In return, you’ll be a part of the team that runs this amazing event, and will be helping local groups and charities receive much-needed funds.”
