If this week’s Burnham-On-Sea carnival has raised your interest in the event’s history, there’s a rare opportunity to step back in time and re-live some of the past festivities this week.
North Sedgemoor’s Local History Group has recently acquired several hours of black and white cine film footage that has been transferred onto video tape by the Engine Room Film Company of Bridgwater.
“The vintage footage includes the Queen arriving at Highbridge Station, local children exploring the Heinkel Fighter Plane, Brent Knoll horse races, a parade of the 1st US Troops in Burnham, plus Marine Gardens in 1937,” John Stricland, Chairman of North Sedgemoor Local History Group told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
A representative from the film company will be screening the films at the history group’s meeting on Wednesday night (November 11th), starting at 7pm in King Alfred School Lecture Theatre, Highbridge.
The footage includes the 1928 Burnham Carnival along the town’s seafront, as pictured above. Visitors will be welcome to attend for a fee of £1.
