The amount of money collected during this week’s Burnham-On-Sea Carnival was down on last year due to smaller-than-expected crowds.
Members of Burnham Lions Club shook collection buckets all along the parade route, from Love Lane to Marine Drive, but the reduced size of the crowds meant the final amount raised was down by around £1,400 compared to last year.
John Hodgson told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Tuesday afternoon (Novenber 11th): “The amount collected was a bit of disappointment compared to last year.”
“We think the poor weather forecast meant the crowds were lower than expected.”
“The current economic claimate hasn’t helped, but we don’t believe this was the main reason for the reduction.”
Last year’s carnival generated £5,050 for good causes in the Burnham-On-Sea area.
