The countdown is underway to this year’s Highbrige and Burnham-On-Sea Carnival, when dozens of illuminated floats will light up the town on Monday November 9th.
Over 100 entries will be taking part in this year’s big parade which starts at 7.30pm, including more than 50 full-length carts.
Burnham-On-Sea’s Hillview Carnival Club will be showing its Christmas-themed float called ‘It’s A Cracker’, featured a giant Santa and snowman plus scores of festive-themed moving parts.
Paul Archer, Highbridge and Burnham Carnival Chief Marshall, pictured, says the entries will be lining up from Saturday evening along Queens Drive and the Frank Foley Parkway, reverting to the same arrangements in place before last year.
The route of Monday’s parade is unchanged, starting as usual in Love Lane, near the town’s Tesco supermarket. The carts will then wend their way along Love Lane, into Manor Road and Victoria Street, before travelling along Burnham High Street and finishing in Marine Drive.
Paul added: “This year’s carnival carts will line up from 9.00pm on Saturday 7th November on Queens Drive (from Tesco roundabout to Stodden’s Lane) and on Frank Foley Parkway (in between Ben Travers Way north and south). This closure remains in place for Sunday and Monday,” he says.
“On Monday, walking entries will be congregating in a reserved part of Tesco Car Park during the afternoon. Access to the store will remain available.”
“The carnival procession will use the normal route, starting at Tesco Roundabout 7.30pm and finishing at Burnham Holiday Village. Most road closures will be put in place at 6.30pm.”
“As carts complete the procession route, they will travel from Marine Drive, along Burnham Road, and left into Peperall Road to split apart in Frank Foley Parkway. Carnival carts will then leave Burnham via Queens Drive.”
“Unlike last year, Burnham and Highbridge Road will remain open for traffic until you reach the lighthouse pub. Highbridge and the A38 will remain open for traffic until the entirety of the Carnival weekend.”
Burnham Carnival Chairman Phil New, added: “It promises to be a fantastic evening – there are lots of really great entries again this year.”
