Burnham-On-Sea’s Carnival Commitee confirmed on Wednesday night (May 10th) that the popular annual winter event WILL go ahead this year following a deluge of support from residents in the town.
Talking to Burnham-On-Sea.com after the committee’s meeting, Carnival Chairman Mike Young said: “It’s fantastic news – I can confirm that this year’s event is now definitely on.”
“We have 79 confirmed volunteers and still offers from others coming in, so we should now have a record number of marshalls.”
“I thank everyone for their tremendous support and am looking forward to a good event this November.”
He added that a meeting of the new volunteers is being planned for June, with an exact date to be announced over the coming days.
Burnham-On-Sea.com reported last week how 150 people crowded into the town’s Ritz Club to offer their support in marshalling the event following a desperate plea for volunteers from the organisers.
The announcement from Mr Young ends a difficult period for the carnival and organisers can now proceed with planning the event, which is currently scheduled for Monday November 6th.
