Sedgemoor District Council has this week rejected plans to convert a former care home in Burnham-On-Sea into seven new homes amid concerns about parking.
The former Gables Care Home on the corner of Burnham’s Grove Road and Berrow Road closed last year.
Owner New Shore Developments applied to the district council to create one two-bedroom house, four two-bedroom flats and two one bedroom flats in its place.
But the district council has turned down the proposals this week, saying: “The Somerset Countywide Parking Strategy suggests an optimum level of thirteen spaces for such a level and type of accommodation.”
This application provides just eight spaces, leaving a shortfall of five spaces. This is likely to lead to increased pressure for on-street parking to an unacceptable level.”
