Burnham councillor hands £4,000 boost to new health care centre

-

Burnham-On-Sea County Councillor Peter Burridge-Clayton has given a new care centre in the town a financial boost this week.

Peter has presented £4,000 from Somerset County Council’s health and wellbeing fund to The Care Centre, which recently opened in College Street.

Julianna Smith and Gaynor Brown of The Care Centre are pictured receiving the cheque for £4,000 from Peter.

They said the cash will be used to help provide help and support to cancer, mental health and dementia sufferers in Burnham through self help, information, experience, relaxation, therapies, counselling and advocacy.

Peter told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I am delighted to be able to give some funding from the County Council’s health and wellbeing budget for this very worthy cause. The Care Centre provides excellent services and support, and is also a focal point for many user groups in our towns. I have been very impressed with the enthusiasm and determination from all those involved in setting up the centre and I am sure it will go from strength to strength.”

Gaynor thanked him for the donation, adding: “This means our doors will be open for a year at least. One in three people will get a cancer diagnosis during our lifetime and there are now many thousands of us surviving and living very full lives.”

“It helps when you just get your diagnosis to come and meet someone who has been through the same thing. We’re a happy, welcoming bunch so come and join us by calling 01278 238714 or dropping in.”
