£55,000 of damage at Brean caravan park after gales blow over trees

-

Falling trees caused up to £55,000 of damage to static caravans at a holiday park in Brean during Sunday’s 65mph gales.

Several caravans were seriously damaged when large trees, weakened by heavy rain, tumbled onto them, as pictured here.

While fortunately no-one was inside them at the time, the bill for the owners at Brean’s Kinnoull and Pinmoor holiday park will likely be in the region of £55,000.

It comes after gale-force winds swept through the Burnham-On-Sea area on Sunday, bringing down trees, closing roads and causing damage to fences, signs and buildings, as reported here.

Robert Price, Manager of Brean’s Kinnoull and Pinmoor holiday park, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “At least one static caravan has been written off and a second has been badly damaged due to the damage.”

“Replacing two of these fully-equipped static caravans would cost around £55,000.”

“Luckily no-one was inside at the time, but it was a big shock to see them in this state.”

He said the weather conditions on Sunday were exceptional. “I have never seen wind like that here in Brean at this time of the year – very strong gusts of north easterly winds.”

Meanwhile, forecasters are forecasting more heavy rain and gusty winds for the region during the early part of this week, with yellow warnings in place for Monday and Tuesday.
