More than £230 was raised for Highbridge’s Dreamscheme when members of the group held a fundraising car wash at Burnham-On-Sea Fire Station on Saturday (June 20th).
A total of 63 motorists got their cars washed during the four-hour event, raising a total of £236.60.
Youngsters and leaders from the Dreamscheme group were helped by Burnham’s firemen, who assisted with the washing down of the vehicles on the station’s forecourt.
PCSO Claire Chambers, one of the organisers of the Highbridge Dreamscheme, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It was a thoroughly enjoyable event and showed with a multi-agency approach how young people can engage with the community – although we thought it was the cars they weren’t meant to be washing – not me and Gill!”
“We would like to thank all the Dreamscheme volunteers and youths, the local Fire Service and the local community for supporting the event. The money raised will be used to fund further Dreamscheme events.”
Highbridge’s Dreamscheme was set up by the Children and Young Persons Sub-Committee of the Local Action Team for Highbridge, alongside Highbridge Police.
If you are interested in joining, see the official website here. It involves young people aged 8-16 taking part in community work (such as litter picks) in return for points that can be used towards day trips and other activities.
