Burnham-On-Sea Coastguards and BARB crewmembers were called out during the early hours of Saturday morning (May 16th) to rescue a motorist stranded on the town’s beach.
A Volkswagen car had been driven onto Burnham beach at Maddock’s Slade shortly after 2.30am and had become stuck in the soft sand.
The young couple inside alerted Coastguards who requested the help of BARB Search & Rescue’s volunteers to tow the stranded vehicle to safety before the incoming tide.
Coastguard Officer Ian Jefferies said: “The couple had intended to drive along the beach but quickly got into difficulty when the car’s wheels sank into the soft sand.”
“It was an unusual call-out for us at this time of the night, and we were grateful for the quick assistance of BARB.”
Police were also called to investigate the incident, but no further action was necessary.
