Hard-up Burnham motorists encouraged to consider car sharing

-

Motorists in the Burnham-On-Sea area who are feeling the pinch due to this month’s increases in fuel duty and VAT are being encouraged to consider car sharing instead.

Car Share Somerset is a free service operated by Somerset County Council which helps drivers find other motorists travelling on the same journey so they can share trips.

The service encourages motorists to consider taking turns with driving, or giving people a lift in exchange for a contribution to fuel costs.

Hannah Fountain, Car Share Manager at Somerset County Council, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The typical commuter who car-shares every day saves around £800 a year, while those who manage to fill all their spare seats often save in excess of £2,000.”

There are already more than 2,000 registered car sharers using the scheme across Somerset, including several drivers in the Burnham-On-Sea area. To register free, visit the Car Share Somerset website here.
