Over 3,000 photos, postcards and articles featuring old scenes and stories about Burnham-On-Sea have been submitted to a project celebrating the town’s history and heritage.
As reported here, North Sedgemoor Local History Group (NSLHG) was awarded £25,200 from the Heritage Lottery Fund for its ‘Capture Burnham’ project to develop a heritage trail and online archive.
Over 160 supporters of the project gathered at Burnham’s Princess Theatre on Thursday evening (May 29th) where some of the huge number of photos submitted to the project went on show for the first time.
John Strickland, the group’s chairman, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We’ve had a great response from local people with lots of positive feedback.”
“We are still sifting through the 3,000 photos and articles about old Burnham and are now working torwards the launch of our heritage trail in Burnham and the Capture Burnham website on August 23rd.”
Thursday’s evening of films and slideshows included a screening of several short film clips, including Priscilla the swan at Burnham Pavilion, the beach paddling pool and boating on the town’s Marine Lake.
