Burnham-On-Sea cancer patients raise funds for hospital TVs

-

Two Burnham-On-Sea residents who are receiving treatment for cancer at Weston General Hospital have raised hundreds of pounds to buy three big-screen TVs for the unit.

Burnham resident Elaine Holman and Julia Gaskell, who runs Burnham’s Playaway Day Nursery, have both been receiving treatment from Weston General Oncology Department.

“We both thought it would be a lovely gesture if the patients, both now and in the future, could benefit from some fundraising, so Julia and I set about raising funds for three new TVs for the oncology department,” Elaine told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“We raised £900 from the generosity of our Burnham-On-Sea family and friends and have purchased the three TVs and wall brackets from Richer Sounds in Bath who gave us a generous discount and free delivery to get three really lovely, 40-inch TVs so that the patients can have something to watch whilst they are receiving their treatment.”

Playaway held a pink blue day to help raise funds, where staff and children dressed up and a cake sale was held.

The pair thanked all who have helped them and added that they would still like to buy one more TV and are appealing for anyone who wants to donate to the appeal to get in contact via Burnham-On-Sea.com here.
