Plans for 14 new flats in Highbridge win council approval

-

Controversial proposals to convert a prominent building in the centre of Highbridge into a development of 14 flats and shops have this week been granted approval by the district council.

Sedgemoor’s planners considered the application for outline permission to redevelop Canal House, which is situated next to the junction of Market Street and Huntspill Road besides the A38 roundabout.

The development will comprise a restaurant on the upper ground floor, plus a leisure facility on the lower ground floor and 14 flats on the first, second and third floors.

Despite previous concerns from town councillors, the district council has granted permission for the building.

Last year, Burnham-On-Sea.com reported here that town councillors had raised concerns about the height of the proposed building and access by vehicles onto the busy roundabout.

The amended plans, submitted by Property Link Consultants, address the concerns. Existing shops and flats at the site are to be demolished to make way for the development.
