Jack, 9, to hold fundraising cake sale in memory of his grandmother

-

A nine-year-old boy from Burnham-On-Sea is organising a special cake sale this Wednesday (August 15th) to raise money for a local hospital who cared for his late grandmother.

Jack Millier, who is a pupil at St Andrew’s School, is holding the sale for the oncology unit at Weston Hospital.

The youngster is very passionate about the sale since his grandmother, whom he was very close to, sadly lost a long fight with cancer in February this year.

Jack has planned the date of the cake sale to be exactly six months since she passed away.

Jack’s mum, Rachel, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “A couple of months ago Jack said he was going to arrange a charity cake sale with all proceeds going to the oncology unit at Weston Hospital.”

“He drew up various plans and got chatting to lots of neighbours arranging for them to make cakes and donate items. At the time we thought he would forget about it in a few weeks! However, Jack has arranged the cake sale all by himself.”

“I am very very proud of what he has done. He has delivered over 80 leaflets to houses nearby and also sent invitations out to school friends before they broke up from school.”

The cake sale will take place on Wednesday, 15th August, from 1pm until 4pm outside 59 Thorndike Way. Jack has also arranged cake raffles, cakes sales, a tombola and a table top sale.

Rachel added: “The oncology unit at the hospital helped my mum so much. They were always kind and caring and always did their best for her. My mum and dad raised lots of money for the oncology unit over the past two years, which is why Jack now wants to do something himself.”

“It would be great if people could come down and support Jack and help him raise as much money as possible for such a great cause.”

She added: “We would also be very grateful if anyone would like to donate any items for the tombola or the table top sale. Any unsold items will be donated to the Weston Hospicecare’s charity shop and any cakes left over will be taken to the Weston Hospice for their patients, staff and visitors to enjoy. We would also be very grateful to hear from anyone that may be able to do facepainting for an hour or so.”
