Display of poppies continues to grow in Burnham’s Manor Gardens

-

A group of army cadets planted dozens of silk poppies in a special display in Burnham-On-Sea’s Manor Gardens on Sunday as part of a special tribute time for next weekend’s Remembrance Day.

During the build-up to Burnham’s annual Remembrance Day service, the silk poppies are being sold to the public across the town to mark the centenary of World War 1.

Burnham and Highbridge Army Cadets Danny Mortimer, Chelsea Walter, Joe Booty and Ellie-May Venn, pictured, have sold scores of the silk poppies at Asda in Highbridge in recent days and these were added to the display.

It is hoped that 1,000 of the £1 poppies will be bought from supermarkets in Burnham and Highbridge including Tesco, Asda, Morrisons and Lidl, to join the display of floral tributes in aid of the Royal British Legion.

Organiser Gaynor Brown from the Burnham Poppy Appeal told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We’re delighted with the support shown so far – we now have over 350 poppies on show and would encourage people to buy one over the next few weeks.”

Each of the silk poppies also has a special written message from the buyer added.
