Burnham’s Sea Cadets make a splash at regional kayaking competition

-

A team of Burnham-On-Sea cadets has won the first stages of a regional kayaking and canoeing competition.

The four cadets – AC Melanie Severe, AC Timon Massarella, OC Jonathan Green and Cadet Rebekah Evans – competed against youngsters from across Somerset and Dorset.

The cadets successfully beat the competition, bringing home trophies for each of the races they competed in.

Commanding Officer Lt Bob Silverthorne told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I am very proud of the cadets that took part, especially with the limited space these cadets have available to train.”

“The next stage, competing against cadets from around the South West, will be a tough challenge, but one in which Burnham cadets will take in their stride. Whatever the outcome, the cadets will do the unit proud.”

The unit is based in Cassis Close, Burnham and is open for 10-12 year-olds on Thursday evenings from 7-9pm and 12-18 year-olds on Monday and Thursday evenings 7-9.30pm. For more details, call 01278 781028, email bobsilverthorne15@gmail.com or drop in on a parade night.
