Local St John Ambulance cadets handed awards during presentation night
Youngsters at Burnham and Highbridge St John Ambulance Cadets group have been handed awards during a special presentation evening.
A Grand Prior Award was handed to Stevie Smith, 15, (pictured right) by County Commissioner Margaret Sweet. This is the highest award a Cadet can receive and the King Alfred School student has been working towards it for five years.
A spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “As well as keeping her First Aid skills up to date, Stevie has passed assessments in 12 other subjects, including Caring for Animals, Radio Communications, Food and Health, Camping, Administration Skills and the History of St John.”
Trophies for 2005 were also awarded to several youngsters. They included the Attendance Shield for Lucy Westlake; Most Duty Hours to Charlotte Aldred; Smartest Uniform to Rhiannon Parsons; Most Promising New Cadet to Hayley Titmus; and Cadets of the Year to Stevie Smith and Joe Keirle.
All Cadets received certificates for First Aid and other subject studies during 2005, and two new cadets – Siobhan Russ and Claire Sealey – were enrolled during the evening.
