Bus timetable changes attacked by Burnham-On-Sea councillor

-

Travelling by bus between Burnham-On-Sea and other towns in the district is set to become more difficult due to changes to timetable booklets in the new year.

That’s the view of Burnham town councillor Chris Williams, pictured, who this week has attacked the County Council for unveiling “short-sighted” changes to bus timetables that he says will make it difficult to work out routes and schedules for bus services operating between towns.

Cllr Williams explained to Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The current timetable booklet makes it very easy to quickly find all Sedgemoor’s bus services in one neat document, which is ideal if you travel between towns, such as Burnham and Bridgwater.”

“But next year the timetable is set to be replaced with around eight smaller – and cheaper-to-produce – documents that will display only local timetables.”

“This means that in order to travel outside of Burnham you’ll need to get hold of several booklets to find suitable times and routes.”

“You might even need to get hold of three or four brochures in order to plan your travel between several towns, which will make it difficult and time-consuming.”

He added: “The changes are short-sighted and I feel they could hurt tourism attractions across the district if visitors to our area find it difficult to travel to places like Cheddar or Wookey Hole.”

“Not everyone has access to Internet timetables and elderly travellers in particular find online services difficult to use.”
