A bus operator has apologised after scores of students in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge were left unable to travel with just two minute’s notice.
Buses of Somerset cancelled the popular 8.06am Service 21 bus from Burnham-On-Sea to Taunton on Tuesday morning (January 2nd).
The cancellation was announced using a post on X, formerly called Twitter, at 8.04am with just two minutes warning, leaving dozens of passengers – including students – unable to travel.
A Buses of Somerset spokesperson told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We apologise to customers who were affected on the 8.06am Service 21.”
“Due to large amounts of rain and surface water on the roads, the controls on the bus became covered in water, and to ensure everyone’s safety the vehicle had to stop immediately. Twitter/X and the First Bus app were updated as soon as the vehicle was stopped.”
However, one Burnham user, Les Barber, whose family regularly uses the service, says he has lodged a complaint with the company, adding that cancellations of the service are “a regular occureence and inconvenience for students missing lesson time.”
