Burnham-On-Sea’s MP James Heappey has exchanged comments with the Prime Minister during a parliamentary debate about the progress on EU Brexit negotiations.
He praised the resolve of Theresa May and added that people are keen to get the Brexit discussions resolved.
He said: “As the Prime Minister has said, beyond this place people are just desperate that we get Brexit over and done with.”
“I have met many people in my constituency who greatly admire the resolve she has shown in pursuing this deal in recent weeks.”
“Does she agree that they will look very dimly if we grind ourselves to a standstill here by pursuing ideological perfection, rather than accepting the very good and pragmatic?”
Prime Minister Theresa May responded: “My Hon. Friend makes an important point. It is for us in this House to look pragmatically at what will deliver for the British people.”
“That is what I have done in this deal, and it is what I believe the deal delivers for the British people.”
“He is right that we should remember the many people up and down the country who want us to get on with this and build that brighter future.”
