Burnham woman says family have been targeted by trolls after partner was robbed

-

A Burnham-On-Sea resident says her family have become the target of online trolls since she posted an image of her partner’s injuries after an alleged knifepoint robbery last week.

Jo Radford says her partner, Peter Thompson, suffered cuts to his face and hand after he was attacked with a knife and had his wallet stolen by five people while walking in an alleyway near Oxford Street at around 5.30am on Friday (April 19th), as we reported here.

Jo says the incident was reported to the Police but says the family has been met with online abuse on a regional news website – not Burnham-On-Sea.com – where people wrote that Peter’s injuries did not look severe.

She said: “We’ve had horrible comments made about the cuts to Pete’s face and hand. They didn’t come from Burnham residents, but people from elsewhere. They made me feel upset and very angry. It frustrates me as the reason I posted it was to warn others to be safe.”

Avon and Somerset Police spokesman Wayne Baker told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The incident happened at about 5.30am after the victim had left his house in Oxford Street and was walking down an alley nearby where there was a group of about five people.”

“One of them assaulted the victim, causing minor cuts to his face and hand. The victim later discovered his wallet was missing.”

“There is no CCTV coverage of the incident. If you can help call us on 101 quoting reference 5219085219.”
