Burnham United Football Club has thanked the local community for messages of support after it suffered a burglary last week.
We reported here that the club in Cassis Close had been left “deeply disappointed and saddened” by a “senseless” overnight burglary last Thursday in which children’s football kit and equipment was stolen.
Burnham United’s building was broken into during the early hours of the morning and the club issued an appeal for information, sharing a CCTV image which generated plenty of feedback.
Club spokesperson Stuart Smith thanked the community and parents of the players for their messages of support and added that Police have been in and taken fingerprints and are following up on the CCTV footage.
Stuart added: “The items stolen were junior training equipment, our bouncy castle, a small box of medal, and a foldable sub’s bench, which was very kindly donated by one of the juniors players parents very recently.”
“We are deeply disappointed and saddened by this senseless act. Our club is more than just a place to play football — it’s a vital part of the local community, bringing people of all ages together and providing a positive environment for young people.”
”To have it targeted in this way is heart-breaking. We rely on the hard work of volunteers and the support of the community, and incidents like this not only cause financial damage but also hurt the spirit of everyone involved.”
A Police spokesperson said their investigations are ongoing: “Forensics work has taken place on site as part of our investigation into the incident. CCTV enquiries are ongoing and we’d ask anyone with information to please contact us online, or on 101, quoting reference number 5225102065.”
