A family left that has been homeless after a fire destroyed their home in Burnham-On-Sea this week have thanked the community for their support.
Rosie Clements, her husband Paul, and their three children, Lily-Rose, Shae and Ruby, lost their home, dog and bearded dragon in the huge blaze on Wednesday afternoon (July 27th).
Burnham’s Haven Holiday Village has stepped in and given the family temporary accommodation – and Asda in Highbridge have also offered supplies to them.
Rosie, who is a teacher at Highbridge’s Churchfield Primary School, said: “I am shell shocked. We are so touched by everybody’s support. My priority is to keep things as normal as possible for the children.”
“Haven have kindly given us accommodation until Monday and all sorts of people have donated clothes and other items, as we only had what we were standing in.”
“We are part of a great community and it has made a very difficult time, especially the loss of all our pets, so much easier to bear.”
Sixteen firefighters were called to tackle the property blaze in Burnham Road, near the junction with Marine Drive, shortly after 2pm following numerous calls from concerned members of the public who saw flames jumping out of windows.
A passing police officer who bravely helped to knock down the front door to check there were no people inside suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to hospital for treatment.
Burnham Road was closed while many hours while crews were at the scene and the public footpath next to the property was closed as a safety precaution.
