A Burnham-On-Sea pensioner has proven that age is no barrier to fitness by winning Sunday’s London Marathon in her 70+ age category for a second time.
Sue Nicholls, 73, completed her eighth London Marathon in a fast time of 4 hours, 3 minutes and 52 seconds.
Talking to Burnham-On-Sea.com, she says: “I had a great run and the weather conditions were comfortable. I’m very pleased with my time, which was better than expected.”
“I was delighted to find out I’d won the 70-75 age category for a second time. It’s a great feeling – there are lots of mature runners who take part.”
Asked how she feels following her 26.2 mile marathon, she said: “I feel fine, I have no injuries and am raring to go again!”
“Age is no barrier – I love running. It keeps your body and mind active.”
Her son, Alan, said: “I’m very proud hat mum won the London Marathon age category for the second time! Just shows that age is no barrier!”
Sue was running for Cancer Research UK and had raised over £710 with gift aid donations by Sunday evening. To donate, click here.
Sue has finished 17 marathons and says she’s next planning to travel to Tromsø in Norway’s Arctic Circle to take part in the Midnight Sun Marathon on the longest day of the year in June.
In 2017, we reported here that Sue had been awarded a medal in recognition of her completing marathons in London, Boston, Tokyo, New York, Chicago and Berlin. She also completed China’s Great Wall Marathon last year.
