Illegal parking in Burnham-On-Sea town centre is to be tackled by local police officers over the next three months.
The problem was selected as the top priority at the latest Burnham Police PACT (Partners and Communities Together) meeting, which was well attended by residents.
Isssues connected with illegal parking in the High Street and adjoining roads will addressed by police following complaints from local residents.
PCSO Eliot Green reported that the Speedwatch scheme on the South Esplanade is now up and running – as recently reported here by Burnham-On-Sea.com – and he said the beat team are looking into Anti-Social Behaviour Dispersal Orders for several car parks in Burnham and Highbridge.
The possibility of gating off sections of Morrisons car park as a more permanent solution was also discussed.
PC Martin Davis explained at the meeting how extra staff and targeted patrols have significantly reduced anti-social behaviour and alcohol-related incidents in Burnham.
PCSO Sarah England gave feedback on action regarding illegal Hudson Street parking and said she was pleased that the issues had now been resolved.
PCSO Williams reported that the Berrow Road Speedwatch scheme was nearing completion, but is just waiting for final authorisation from the Road Policing Unit before their sessions can begin.
Along with parking issues, Burnham Police will also be adressing criminal damage after pub closing times, and dog fouling.
The next PACT meeting is proposed to be held at 7.30pm on Thursday 22nd October at The Old Courthouse in Jaycroft Road, Burnham-On-Sea.
