Burnham-On-Sea Beer Festival cancelled due to Coronavirus outbreak

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s annual Beer and Cider Festival and Highbridge’s popular Apex Park Play day have become the latest events to be cancelled due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.

With no immediate end in sight to the Government’s ban on social gatherings or the lifting of its guidelines on social distancing, local event organisers have this week cancelled their events.

The Apex Play Day, which usually takes place in early August, has been cancelled by Sedgemoor District Council, as we reported here.

Burnham’s Beer and Cider Festival was scheduled to take place over the May Bank Holiday weekend but organisers from the Ritz Social Club have cancelled it.

Paul Hale, general manger at The Ritz Social Club, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The festivals run by the Ritz Social Club have been a popular addition to the events calendar in the local area and have always been well supported by locals and visitors to the area.”

“Our events schedule for 2020 has been discussed with our management committee and with the timescales when we are able to re-open uncertain we have had to make some very difficult decisions to cancel certain events, including the beer and cider festival in addition to our popular tribute nights.”

“We will be in contact wit people that have booked private functions over the course of the next couple of weeks to discuss various options for your special event.”

“The club is closed under guidance from the Government and we will continue to follow and adhere to this guidance.”

He adds: “All staff have been furloughed and I have received a lot of messages from our members enquiring about our staff and I can confirm they are all safe and well.”

“During this period of lockdown we are running a twice-weekly online quiz to allow our members to communicate with their friends and have a bit of fun at the same time and simply to ‘kill a bit of time.”

“We will come back from this current period of the unknown bigger and better and cannot wait to welcome our members who we consider our dearest friends and more importantly our extended family.”
