Burnham-On-Sea volunteers wanted for summer reading challenge

-

Volunteers are needed in the Burnham-On-Sea are this summer to pass their love of reading onto children during this year’s ‘Space Chase’ themed Summer Reading Challenge which is set to take place across all Somerset Libraries.

Last year, over 7,400 children took part in the challenge in Somerset and this couldn’t have been achieved without the help of volunteers.

Volunteers need to be aged 13 and over, have a love of reading, and be able to give up some of their spare time over the summer holidays between 13th July and 7th September.

Sue Crowley, Strategic Manager for Somerset Library Services at Somerset County Council, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are very grateful to the large number of volunteers who step forward each year to support the Summer Reading Challenge.”

“Every year, more and more Somerset children take part and our volunteers really help to make the challenge a great success. If you are interested in taking part this year, please get in touch.”

“Volunteers help by signing up children to the Summer Reading Challenge when they come into the library, give out rewards for the books they’ve read, talk to children about the books, help them choose their next one, and help run craft activities.”

“Volunteering is a great way to enhance CVs, gain valuable work experience, and meet new people. Being part of the Challenge is also a great way to help the lives of local children by sharing a love of reading and encouraging them to read.”

The closing date for applications is 22nd June. Applicants will be invited for an informal chat to assess their suitability for the role.
