Burnham-On-Sea Police Station could shut down in 2021 or 2022, reveals report

Burnham-On-Sea Police Station could close down in 2021 or 2022, according to a new Freedom of Information request.

Burnham’s station, in Burnham Road, has been at risk of closure for several years with a smaller police presence likely to be based at either Burnham fire station or in the town centre.

Avon and Somerset Constabulary’s Police and Crime Commissioner Sue Mountstevens has previously said the force is looking to close those stations which are too big.

In an estate strategy for 2016-20, she said: “Many of the police stations are oversized and underutilised, costing considerable investment to ensure the buildings and facilities are compliant.”

“Where this is the case, capital can be raised from the sale of these outdated and unsuitable stations and reinvested in local policing.”

Police say Burnham Police station could close in 2021/22, according to the freedom of information request.
