Burnham-On-Sea & Highbridge Sea Cadets Unit is this week celebrating after taking delivery of a new minibus thanks to a kind local donation.
The vehicle will be used to transport young cadets to a variety of outdoor activities, competitions and events through the year.
The minibus was donated to the Unit by Terry Rickard, the owner of Burnham Waste Ltd, following an appeal featured in 2018 here on Burnham-On-Sea.com.
The long-running cadet group, which is based in Cassis Close, Burnham – had issued an appeal for help amid a “dire transport situation”.
The Commanding Officer, Lt Dom Gregory, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Mr Rickard’s donation of this vehicle came out of the blue and couldn’t have come at a better time.”
“Our existing vehicle is much smaller and starting to become unreliable and costing more and more to maintain.”
The Unit’s Chairman of Trustees, Carol Roberts, added: “This new bus is a real benefit to the Unit, and cadets.”
“Mr Rickard’s donation has helped our limited financial resources stretch much further and we’re extremely grateful for his support.”
Mr Rickard said he is “delighted” to provide the support to the group and praised the Sea Cadets for the work they in the local community.
