A player from Burnham & Berrow Golf Club is celebrating after winning her first Ladies European Tour Title.
Mimi Rhodes, 23, has been competing in Australia over the past week at the Ford Women’s NSW Open in just her fourth tournament as a full-time member of the tour.
She became champion with a two-shot win on Sunday after a two-under round of 69 to finish on 17-under for the tournament in Wollongong, Australia. Mimi had shot the course record during her second round, a nine-under 62.
Mimi said: “I’m honestly still in shock, but I’m so happy. I’ve worked really hard for this. I had a difficult week last week [missing the cut in a Coffs Harbour event], I went through a swing change and it obviously worked! I’m just really happy.”
“I was fine on the front nine but when it started to get tight I got a bit stressed. I kept breathing and tried to remain focused. It’s difficult in those situations but I’m just really glad I got it done. To celebrate I’m spending the night with family and friends in Sydney. Maybe we’ll have some champagne!”
Graham Cooke, joint head pro at Burnham & Berrow Golf Club, told Burnham-On-Sea.com that club members and local players in Burnham-On-Sea are keenly following her progress.
“She is awesome! We are very proud of her and all she is achieving at the start of her golf career,” says Graham.
“We’ve been watching her progress along the way – and she has made incredible progress in a short time since turning pro.”

Golf runs in her family, as her sister Patience is also a keen golfer who has enjoyed several big wins. Burnham-On-Sea.com featured golfing sisters Mimi Rhodes and Patience Rhodes last year.
