Burnham-On-Sea fundraiser raises over £400 for mental health charity at marathon

-

Burnham-On-Sea fundraiser Dawn Gray has raised over £400 for mental health charity MIND in Somerset by completing the virtual London Marathon.

It was touch and go whether she would even be able to take part after breaking her elbow in an accident earlier this summer.

Dawn says: “I am most definitely not a runner! But I was hoping to complete it within 8.5 hours, but the injury meant I wasn’t able to train for over eight weeks. I was only given the all clear to compete in the marathon by my consultants a few days before Sunday’s event.”

“My finish time was 10 hours, 14 minutes due to my painful right arm, which I cannot straighten – it actually really hinders walking – and the wet weather we experienced.”

“I walked the first seven miles alone, and was then supported at various sections throughout my route by my family, with my sister walking the distance of half a marathon.”

“My route took me along the beach from Burnham to Brean Down and back, then following the coastal path along the River Brue towards Combwich, ending at the yacht club.”

“I was welcomed by my family and friends and some friendly cheering from passers-by and a finish line designed and made by my 4 year old daughter!”

“I’m raising money for Mind in Somerset. I have PTSD and I think we probably all know someone who is going through a difficult time right now.”
